About Our Foodbank Network

Philomusica Aberystwyth is proud to be part of The Trussell Trust’s network of 428 foodbanks, dedicated to tackling food poverty and hunger in our local communities and across the UK. We strive every day to make a difference by providing essential supplies and support to those who are struggling, ensuring that no one in our community goes hungry. The impact of our collective effort is felt by thousands of individuals and families who rely on us during their most difficult times.

Foodbank Network

The Foodbank Network was established in 2004 after four years of developing the original foodbank in Salisbury. Since then, The Trussell Trust has supported communities across the country to launch foodbanks in numerous towns and cities, growing into a vital network that provides immediate help to those in need. Over the years, the network has expanded to meet the increasing demand, ensuring that we reach as many people as possible, even in the most remote areas. This growth has been made possible thanks to the hard work and dedication of volunteers, donors, and local partners who come together to fight food poverty.

Impact

In 2020/21, The Trussell Trust’s Foodbank Network provided 2,537,198 three-day emergency food supplies to individuals in crisis across the UK, with 980,082 of these going to children. These numbers highlight the ongoing issue of food insecurity that many people face, and the essential role that foodbanks play in providing a safety net for families and individuals. Every food parcel makes a significant difference, offering not only nourishment but also a sense of hope and relief during incredibly challenging times.

Mission

Our mission as a network is to help more people out of crisis and reduce the need for foodbanks in the future. That’s why The Trussell Trust, along with local foodbanks, is working on initiatives like the 'More Than Food' programme to develop new ways to support people beyond emergency food provision. These initiatives aim to address the root causes of poverty, offering practical support such as financial advice, budgeting assistance, and guidance on accessing welfare benefits. By tackling these issues, we hope to empower individuals to regain stability and reduce their reliance on foodbanks over time.

Vision

We believe that by working together, we can create a future where everyone has enough food to eat and fewer people need to turn to foodbanks. Our vision is for a society where no one has to go hungry and where communities are equipped to support each other through difficult times. To achieve this, we are constantly looking for new partnerships, innovative ideas, and sustainable solutions that will help break the cycle of poverty.
